preparation, databasing and archiving services, as well as a worldwide reduction in general
staff numbers. In many cases, quality assurance has been compromised, resulting in data
sets being prepared at best by technical staff with little or no experience of data
acquisition or interpretation techniques and in the worst instances by casual assistants.
Data does not routinely undergo scrutiny by a qualified Geoscientist until it is required
at the interpretation stage, where problems are often discovered too late. Costly data
editing, re-processing and additional verification all cause delays and severe frustration.
