Data Management Case Studies

The following are a selection of major projects that have been carried out over the last few years and are described below in general terms so as to preserve confidentiality:

2009 – Wintershall – Germany – rationalisation of data indexing and cataloguing of corporate data store.2008 -2009 REMSA – Repsol Magreb Tripoli

Capture and index of 700,000 LAN files into GeoCSOPE with automated data mining and cataloguing GeoSCOPE system.
 
2005-2006 –Wintershall Germany. Capture by scanning , indexing nd collection of metadata for 1000 wells inclusive of well files , logs and associated reports and drawings.
 
2004-2006 ZADCO – Abu Dhabi – conversion, indexing and data capture of 1000 well files and associated reports and documents. All documents were catalogued and scanned.
2003 REMSA – Repsol Magreb Tripoli
Entire regional archive indexed , scanned and technical Library being build with data entered into GeoSCOPE.
 
2003- present - Great Man River – Libya. Capture of 130,000 documents into a custombuilt GeoCSOPE system for this major pipeline and facilities project.
 
2002 NIOC AHWAZ
Technical archive captured and launched through a GeoSCOPE web portal.
Access to thousand of reports, well files, logs etc for all of southern Iran. This involved 24 staff working for 9 months on two shifts sorting, indexing, scanning and digitising. The volumes involved were 120 oil/gas fields, 2700 wells, 25,000 log films, 17000 maps and up to 4 million pages of reports and
well files.
 
2002 Data capture in Irkutsk for major British Oil Co
Licence round data package scanned, digitised and loaded to IESX, OpenWorks

Licence round data package scanned, digitised and loaded to IESX, OpenWorks

2002- 3 Data capture in Abu Dhabi for ADCO
Processing of 400+ well log data set for digitising and database preparation to Geoframe. This involved data capture onsite in Abu Dhabi with our local technicians.

2002 – current Great Man River - Libya
An IM/DM system with a GIS from end has been implemented to manage all
the pipeline facilities documentation for this major utilities project.

2001-2002 Talisman Energy / PetroCanada
Installed intranet GeoSCOPE system for Libya and other areas in corporate offices in Calgary. This was part of the transfer of data assets between Lundin Oil and the two Canadian oil companies.
 
2001 VEBA oil Operation LIBYA
Scanning of AMAL oilfield well file archive in Tripoli and the digitisation of the reservoir sections of the well logs.
 
2001 REPSOL Oil Operations - LIBYA
Exploration archives captured and put into GeoSCOPE.
 
2000-2004 major Oil Company Consortium in Kazakhstan
Project includes the capture of 20,000 reports and associated documents in London and a further 40,000 in Kazakhstan. This project is still current and involves 300 wells and an intranet system in both locations connected by an extranet. The capture was done using a variety of scanners.

1996 – 99 OMV - Europe
Over 1800 wells amounting to 20,000,000 curve metres of data were scanned, catalogued, digitised, edited and composited in preparation for loading to a major database
 
1996 - 99 AGIP Forall
Over 8000 wells, 3 million kms of seismic data and 4 million documents from well files for Electronic Document Management. The project requires that all data be catalogued, scanned and digitised. The Well data is being edited and composited in preparation for loading to a major database. The Seismic data is
being scanned, reconstructed and processed. The General Documents are being indexed and scanned for inclusion in an electronic image archive.
Initially for two years, this contract was extended for an additional two years.
 
1998 RAMCO – Azerbaijan / UK
Concession data of well logs, sections, and reports captured and reconstructed to Digital data, and loaded into GeoSCOPE digital Archive. Remote data access to GeoSCOPE concession base-maps via telecomms, to company
offices and remote locations. The digitising of 250 wells, maps and production documents were done.
 
1998 Client Confidential – Scandinavia
Project concession documents scanned and vectorised and loaded into the GeoSCOPE digital Archive to enable main Operator and Partners to share digital quality assured data.
 
1998 Client Confidential – Middle East / UK
Exclusive raw data and Paper Archive captured, and along with 8 digital archives, converted to a Digital Archival GeoSCOPE system. Similar Digital Archive based upon GeoSCOPE established in UK and connected via Replication.
 
1997 Client confidential - Far East
Conversion of a very large number of seismic lines and log prints from paper to digital format and the creation of an archive and retrieval system.
 
1997 Client Confidential - UK / World Bank
Large quantity of wells, seismic lines, maps and general documents were scanned and catalogued in Turkmenistan and then digitised / vectorised and delivered in interpretation ready format. This is the third of 3 missions for this project.

90 wells, 40 seismic lines, maps and general documents were scanned and catalogued in Armenia and then digitised / vectorised and delivered in interpretation ready format.

2600 well log prints, 600 seismic lines, maps and general documents were scanned and catalogued in Uzbekistan and will then be digitised / vectorised and delivered in interpretation ready format.
 
1997 TOTAL - Europe
264 well file reports, 54 Cross sections, 203 seismic lines, 188 maps and 1200 well log prints were scanned and catalogued in a remote location. The data is being prepared for inclusion in our GeoSCOPE data archiving and browsing intranet software. This is a pilot project.
 
1997 Client Confidential – UK North Sea
Paper libraries of concession, lease, contract, wells, seismic and cultural data scanned into Raster image format using TIFF 4, and loaded into the GeoSCOPE Archive.
 
1996 AMOCO Poland
48 wells were scanned and catalogued in Eastern Europe and then digitised and spliced to full petrophysical standards.
 
1996 Gaffney Cline- Turkmenistan
Ministry of Oil and Gas - World Bank 9 wells, 23 seismic lines plus maps and general documents were scanned and catalogued in Turkmenistan and then digitised / vectorised and delivered in interpretation ready format. This is the first of 3 missions for this project.

330 wells were scanned, catalogued in Western Siberia over a period of 6 weeks, and then digitised and spliced over the following 3 months.

1995 Shell Sarawak - Far East1500 well log prints, and 3500 assorted well log files were scanned for a pilot project to evaluate the feasibility of image archiving. A further 100,000 well log prints and 300,000 well file documents are on standby for this project. This project is still in the evaluation stage.

1994  Client Confidential
48 wells from Alaska were edited and composited to Petrophysical standards using 6 log analysts over a period of 2 months. This entailed full depth adjustment for each entire well.
1993 - 1994 Client confidential
Prepared 250 wells - Kazakhstan over a period of 8 months. Data was delivered by client in small batches during this period. 1000 km of seismic data was processed a year later.
1993  For Jebco Seismic Ltd
Preparation, auditing, cataloguing of 10,000 kms of seismic data and over 300 wells from the Khanty Mansisk region of Western Siberia. The data was prepared for data package sales prior to a licensing round. The project took 2 months to complete.

10,000 km of West Siberian seismic data processed for a major oil company.
Over 40 wells were also processed.

103 wells amounting to 1,800,000 curve metres of data in Poland were scanned, catalogued, digitised, edited and composited.
